Denny family’s plea after dementia patient died in Forth Valley Hospital

How many times do we hear of loved ones falling as a result of urinary infections that are not assessed or effectively monitored. The Falkirk Herald has highlighted a case of a Denny family who claim their 74-year-old mother was neglected by Forth Valley Royal Hospital in 2017. The family are calling for the facility to take greater heed of families requests, as often families can provide valuable insight into their loved ones needs, and identify changes in their mood and behaviour that can indicate an infection or delirium.

Our members understand the pressure that hospitals are under, and the need to make difficult decisions. However, recognising the role of a family carer can provide valuable insight, and reduce the risk to the patient and to the hospital.
